AboutLondon Laura – November 2023 Newsletter
Did you try any of my suggestions from last month? I thought the Hellenic Centre is well worth having on your cultural radar. And I did manage to see inside the pink house on Princelet Street. Did you go?
Fashion City
The new exhibition at the Museum of London Docklands is great! It’s about how Jewish Londoners shaped global style. It’s a really well-designed exhibition so well worth a visit.
Museum of Nostalgia
I made a spontaneous decision to go to the last Open Day of the year at the Museum of Nostalgia. I doubt you’ve heard of it and I can’t remember how it made it only to my ‘places to visit’ list. But it was interesting and great for memories.
Horizon 22
London’s newest highest free viewing platform is Horizon 22 in The City. It’s higher than The Shard and the views are impressive. I’ve put together lots of tips to make the most of your visit.
The Post Building Rooftop Garden
It’s only taken me a year to get the largest free roof terrace in the West End. It’s still not busy and you don’t need to book in advance.
What’s Planned This Month?
I’m looking forward to David Hockney – Drawing From Life at the National Portrait Gallery and Holbein at The Tudor Court at the Queen’s Gallery.
Also opening this month, Mutual Friends: The Adventures of Charles Dickens & Wilkie Collins is at the Dickens Museum from 15 November and the new Blavatnik Art, Film and Photography Galleries open at IWM London on 10 November. Women in Revolt! is at Tate Britain from 8 November and Impressionists on Paper: Degas to Toulouse-Lautrec opens at the Royal Academy on 25 November.
Crown and Coronation is an immersive sound and light show at the Tower of London from 17 to 25 November.
Top tips of exhibitions already open include Handel’s Will: Love & Legacy at the Foundling Museum and two exhibitions marking the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s First Folio.
While the Christmas lights will be switched on all over the place this month, Hyde Park Winter Wonderland returns and should be loud, bright and festive.
