AboutLondon Laura – May 2023 Newsletter
It's Coronation time! But there's a lot more going on this month too.
May in Britain
It’s not just ‘new King and Queen month’ as you could enjoy jousting, coastal walks, Eurovision, flowers, hot air balloons, pirates, trains, dancing and more!
Dickens & the London Fog
While we don’t have to contend with the ‘pea-soupers’ of the 19th century, London’s air quality is still a topical news story. The latest exhibition at the Charles Dickens Museum looks at the ways London fog crept across the work and life of Charles Dickens.
The Rossettis
Tate Britain has a major exhibition charting the romance and radicalism of the Rossetti generation. It showcases works by Dante Gabriel as well as his sister Christina Rossetti and his wife Elizabeth (neé Siddal) and looks at their revolutionary approach to life, love and art.
Dressing the Georgians
Fancy a trip to the ‘bum shop’ or a horsehair wig? The Queen’s Gallery at Buckingham Palace has a major exhibition revealing life in the 18th century through the fashions of the day.
What’s Planned This Month?
Will you be watching the Coronation? I’ll be one of the millions viewing it on telly as the day unfolds. I’m also looking forward to seeing the changes at Handel & Hendrix in London when it reopens in a few weeks. And once I finish recovery after the second cataract operation, I can plan more fun and even some trips outside of London at last.
I ve been reading your articles for more than 10 years and appreciated them and constantly “ liked “ them, even when you begged for a little suscription. I make efforts to visit UK almost every year ( next week I ll be in Edinburgh - yes at Cheval). I need a heart ablation and eyes operation. Have I asked for a dime ? Of course, not. I have a job, I don t ask the planet for money !
How dare you ?
