AboutLondon Laura – January 2023 Newsletter
Happy new year! I hope your festive season went well and you’re ready to make 2023 a good one.
January in Britain
Before the world was turned upside down, I wrote a monthly column for Anglotopia on the quirky and interesting events that take place across Britain each month. I’m pleased to report the column is back so let me tell you about this month.
Chartwell at Christmas
Yes, it’s a bit late to be telling you about this, but it may inspire you to visit Winston Churchill’s family home later in the year.
Sutton House
Finding a Tudor house in east London disguised as a Georgian house was a treat. Have you visited this National Trust property?
Leighton House Museum
This Kensington museum reopened in October so I went back to see how £8 million had been spent transforming it from “Hidden Gem to National Treasure”.
What’s Planned?
Do you know what, I haven’t really planned very much this year. I’ll be working on the promotions for Cirque Berserk! – an excellent ‘real circus made for theatre’ production that opens at the Riverside Studios in Hammersmith next month. And I need to reschedule a trip to Pembrokeshire to write an update on A Church in Wales. (New Year’s Eve celebrations were scuppered when my best friend caught Covid.) While I haven’t planned much, I think we all know it’s better to grab the moments of joy, with the people you love, when they can happen.
