Did I do what I planned?
I told you at the start of last month what I hoped to do throughout July but let’s see how well I did.
I did return to the Tower of London Superbloom and I did go to the Freud Museum. (More below)
I didn’t get to the Milton Avery exhibition at the Royal Academy but I did visit the two National Trust properties (Ightham Mote and Paycocke’s House).
I did go to Buckingham Palace for the summer opening of the State Rooms but I didn’t go to Swan Upping. This was a bit frustrating as I was allowed a place on the press boat but the heatwave arrived so I had to decline.
Superbloom – Return Visit
I first visited Superbloom in the Tower of London dry moat in May when it was still quite a palette of greens. So it was great to return and see it looking so colourful! And yes, I did go down the slide again.
Family Matters at The Freud Museum
I like the Freud Museum. It’s small but it puts on good temporary exhibitions which give good reasons to return. The latest exhibition is about Lucian Freud – the artist whose grandad (Sigmund Freud) lived at the Hampstead house where the museum is now located.
More To Read Next Month
I’ve completed more articles but they are not published yet. I often write for the American websites Anglotopia and Londontopia, and the Editor is currently travelling (first time back to the UK in four years!) so we’ll have a flurry of features for next month. You can see a list of what I’ve written recently here.
I’ve written about Swan Upping as I did the research even if my trip couldn’t happen. Hopefully, I can go next year. And I’ve got a write-up following the Buckingham Palace trip ready for you too. I’ve also written about those two National Trust properties as well.
The London Annual 2023
This summer, I’m busy researching, visiting and writing features for a print magazine. The London Annual is a US magazine (that ships worldwide). I’m compiling a list of the best events and exhibitions planned for 2023, as well as a variety of features. I’ve had a closer look at the Boris Anrep mosaic floor tiles at the National Gallery, and I’ve visited The Royal College of Physicians’ Museum and Medicinal Garden.
I have more research trips planned this month for The London Annual including Lesnes Abbey Woods, St Dunstan in the East and a secret garden in Regent’s Park.
Any Other Plans?
As well as the London Annual days out, I’d like to fit in another National Trust trip. This time I’m thinking of The Red House – the former home of William Morris. Have you been there? South London always seems so far away from my north London home but I think this will be worth the journey.
And I’m having a bit of a holiday visiting friends in Wales as my teenager was unimpressed she couldn’t join me last time (she was doing her exams). Their home is full of kids and love so I’m looking forward to returning.
I *loved* Red House when I visited there in 2007! It's been some time, but I'd go back in a moment.
